Match report

Despite fielding a weakened team, St Michael's returned to winning ways to secure a comfortable victory against an even weaker Northants Stars.

Missing 3 bowlers, St Michael's fielded first against a Stars team that started the match with only 7 players. Martin Baker opened the bowling with vice captain Will Kingston. The opening overs were tight, with the Stars batsmen conscious of the fact that they had so few players at the ground. Kingston made the breakthrough, bowling Faisal for 7. Brain Ahearn, bowling for the first time in a decade, took time to get his rhythm, but ended up getting a creditable 2 for 34.

As the innings progressed, more Northants Stars players turned up, so that by 3:00 that had 10 batsmen, though 2 of them were young lads.

With the Stars bowling attack not the most fearsome in the league, the St Michael's batters made light work of the target. Matt Collier especially took a liking to what was served up, scoring his first half century of the season. He was joined by the Bear's brother, Paul Ahearn, who also tucked into the buffet with a rapid 24 to see St Michael's home with time to spare.
